Practical, easy-to-use and full of professional hints and tips, this book will inspire anyone wanting to make beautiful designs. Craft in Motion: Iris Folding uses the revolutionary Craft in Motion system of displaying movement on the page to demonstrate in flowing sequences how to create beautiful craft works using the relatively new craft of iris folding in which paper or fabric strips are laid down in order around an aperture to create the illusion of looking at the iris of a camera. The technique is generally used for card making, but the basic principles can be applied to other artifacts. Iris folding is a truly 21st century craft, developed in Holland around the millennium. It started off when office workers realized the enormous recycling potential of business envelopes and set about using the interiors of the envelopes decoratively to make greetings cards. In iris folding strips of paper and now fabric too are stuck in order around an aperture, leaving a small center into which a decorative device, such as a hologram can be inserted. Following expert advice on ideal tools and materials for beginners, the basic techniques of iris folding are introduced. These techniques and possibilities are then brought together in the projects six in all. These range from a simple greetings cards for all occasions, through to how to design scrapbook pages, including iris techniques. Projects of increasing complexity to build confidence and skill. Imaginative use of cards and papers of varying patterns, textures and styles to offer scores of ideas for artistic expression. All the basic paper-folding techniques.

In this book, which is made up of the books Elegant Iris Folding, Iris Folding with Greetings and Iris Folding for the Winter and supplemented with a number of patterns from Iris Folding with Iris Folding Paper, all the cards are filled with strips of patterned paper cut from the inside of envelopes. Iris folding paper, which is available in many different colors and patterns, is a perfect addition to these, as are the mini stickers with or without a shiny border and the greetings sheets. They all go perfectly with these patterns. By using your own choice of paper and finishing material, each card will be creative and unique. The basic shapes for the cards in this book are the pentagon, the oval and the rectangle. Discover the countless possibilities that Iris folding has to offer in this inspiring collection with clear instructions.

No special skills are needed to perfect this technique. It is amazing how simple it is to produce dazzling designs by just following a basic pattern. The designs are created by cutting, folding and positioning different colored papers into swirling, spiraling layers, and mounting them in shaped apertures. Once you have learned the basics, you can let your imagination run wild and combine techniques for more effects, or produce three-dimensional shaped cards with beautiful iris panels. In this book, Michelle Powell has created six striking projects which aim to get you started straight away. Templates are included and there are many ideas for alternative designs. Once you start folding, you will be so delighted with the results you will want to create a whole range of fantastic cards.
